Corrinne's Candy Cane Cookies

Great Grandma Corrinne's famous candy cane cookies! Showed up every year in a holiday tin along with the peanut brittle. Guaranteed to bring back memories of your childhood!
Ingredients
- 8 crushed candy canes
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 ½ cups flour
- ½ cup powdered sugar

Instructions
- Crush candy canes in a plastic baggie.
- In a medium bowl, whisk flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda – set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy then add vanilla and egg – mix well.
- Slowly mix in the dry ingredients (except powdered sugar) until a dough forms.
- Gently mix in the crushed candy canes.
- Pour the powdered sugar on a large plate.
- Roll 1 Tablespoon size amount of dough into a ball and roll in powdered sugar.
- Shake off excess powdered sugar and place on cookie sheet (12-15 at a time).
- Bake at 350° for 9 to 10 minutes (bottoms barely begin to brown) and cookies have a matte sheen.
- Cool on cookie sheet for 3 minutes before removing from sheet (some candy cane may have melted onto the sheet below the cookies and they will stick a little).
- Carefully remove from sheet with a spatula.
